POETRY AND FOOTBALL 
In a game of football
You need among other things 
To kick the ball at the right time
Without carrying the ball too far ;
Passing it is more important
In the desired angle
For a goal or two
Fouls are really dangerous
And it hardly matters who injures who.

Writing a poem is perhaps in the reverse
Words kick you right and left
When you are in the tight hold
Of a powerful emotion
In the heart deeply felt
Not knowing for awhile
What really to do ;
Jotting the words on the canvas
At the right moment,
Without passing or
Waiting for it too long,
you are propelled near the post
And the poem is scored in one solid shot.
