DRUG ADDICTS
Hurt in childhood
By ruthless words
From ugly elders
Some of whom exploited
Our teenage body
And drove us to seek
Relief in vicarious pleasures;
Our life on streets
Lived on pity and pittance ,
Our love never ever valued
Our sincerest emotions ridiculed ;
Trapped in a cage of fear and inhibition,
Haunted ceaselessly
by remorse and frustration
During our dusty youth;
Hounded by guilty acts
Committed in vicious circles,
Betrayals and rejections
In our cheerless adulthood,
We have been goaded
to a lonely cheerless living
In company of cheap drinks and drugs
In this inferno of an indifferent metro
Where death is cheaper
than common cough and cold
We exist like rotten vegetables
Which can hardly be sold,
Without a stake in common humanity
Ours is a life of unending anxiety
Caught in the web of death
We are bereft of faith
And inescapably imprisoned
In a relentless uncertainty.
