ECHOING WIND

Leaves drop here with very  brief breaks
Echoing some old familiar foot steps
On the placid surface of a sullen mind  ;
With ruffled feathers swimming down
On the wings of  memory little behind .

Poised to lighten the pace of breath
After a ramble in the morning woods,
I’m drawn again to ponder over some
Issues over which it always broods .

Leaves of grass smile a different smile
With irony of a shadow on their lips,
Wind sings an elegy on time’s cruel wile
Raising a rumble in heart’s secret deeps .

To this flowers rise up in a quick reply
With dance of heads and twist of hips
They say, “How can you be lonely
When our heart for you silently weeps ?”
