A MILLION BIRDS SING

A million birds sing
in the woods of our leafy union
as this afternoon turns you on
with the music from unseen chimes
dangling from tall stout branches
up the trees’ robust thighs
in tune with which
our hungry heart sweetly cries

drawing the pink sun to a compromise
on your glowing lips
where leaves turn into bulbous tulips
and koels sing in thick boughs of your body
urging the moon to be a quicker boon

behind the excited unfolding of the braid of dark hair
with maddening scent from your twigs wafted into the air

I simply turn into a long- drawn- out conch’s blare
in the midst of the storms that in your secret corner flare
not knowing how to dare I am lost in the serenade
having nothing to do in the beams’ overpowering glare
but just at the reddening petals of your face I blindly stare !!!
